I've heard/seen things that seem to point out that you're place on the Indian team is how rich you are and what connections you have. People have even pointed it this applies to the whole South Asian continent. I recently talked to some Indians on the cricket team, and ALL of them said there's too much corruption, where one kid who no one has seen before but who's father is really rich immediately makes the team. I'm trying to keep an unbiased view, despite all I've heard. I'm just curious to see what peoples' takes on this is. Please do not mistake me for an Indian hater.

There are better qualified people on this forum to talk about this than me, but what I do know is that each state has an influence or vote on the make up of the national team and where they play their matches. Under such 'democracy' there may well be trade-offs (you get to play your player if we get this ODI).

There was a recent case where someone was accused of trying to bribe selectors to pick a player, but I think this was both unsuccessful and not linked to the way the whole system works.#

Anyway, if you want to talk about class barriers I'd take a look at England too. You won't get close to watching cricket unless you have satellite TV, and if you are in a state school you won't play as a kid unless you join a club as there is no chance it will be in a PE lesson.
