The ICC has announced an initial 39 man training squad for the ICC Super Series to be played against the Australians later this year. There’s no great surprises in the announcement, but what should be noted is the absence of Indian Captain Sourav Ganguly and New Zealand skipper Stephen Fleming. Both players who have been out of form in recent series, look to be unlucky to have missed out, especially Stephen Fleming who was one of the early favourites to Captain the Test xi.
The selected squads will be pruned over coming months until the final Test and ODI squads of 15 players are announced around late August.
England’s Michael Vaughan appears to be the early favourite to lead the Test team with either Brian Lara or Sanath Jayasuriya likely contenders for the One Day duties.
